Out of Blogger Reply

I am out of the blogging world today. My son, Austin is having surgery today. I'm probably an hysterical mess and my mother might be worried about my sanity as she nervously waits with me.

You would think he was receiving an organ transplant, but in all actuality he is just having a dermoid cyst removed from above his left eyebrow. See here:

And here:

It is being removed by a plastic surgeon, and he will go in though the eyelid to prevent major scarring. Ick.

When I come back down to reality, it could be much, much worse. But Primetime and 20/20 could have minded their own business and NOT shared any stories on freak surgical accidents. Ugh.

We were instructed to give him NO food or drink after midnight, so by the time you are reading this, I have already gone through the hell of dealing with a starving 15 month old.

I hope you are having a Happy Halloween and Happy Monday! I will be back tomorrow with the third installment of Understanding Food Labeling and kicking off November with some awesome sponsors!

Hello there
I have just stumbled upon your site when I was googling tiny cyst over eyebrow for my baby girl. She is 8 months old and she has a tiny cyst that is only identified by touching although gradually seems to be becoming ever so slightly bigger. I have scared myself to the nth degree by looking at neurofibromatosis and all :( . I showed her to my doctor but she did not give me a diagnosis and I think she is in a wait and see mood although she sounded and looked like she was concerned. Me? I am going crazy with the unknown. Can you please tell me when your son developed this cyst and how long did it take for it to become visible and whether did he experienced any other problems.

His was actually there when he was born, it was just so small then, we didn't notice it. We spoke with our pediatrician when Austin was about 9 months old. The doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal and told us it would go away. By his first birthday he still had it and it was slightly bigger, so our doctor sent us to have an ultrasound done. He then referred us to a plastic surgeon who discussed what kind of cyst he had and how to remove it. Basically, when Austin was forming in my belly and his skull plates grew together, some skin got trapped between two plates. Since it is skin, it began to fill up with skin secretions, fat, and various other things. None of these were harmful to him and the plastic surgeon was able to go through his eyelid and remove the cyst in one piece. He told us it was all the way down to the bone and tested completely normal (I guess as normal as it can be). I would suggest asking your doctor to refer you for an ultrasound. Feel free to email me with any other questions! feedingmytemple@gmail.com
